Now, lots of shops in our community are promoting sustainable invitation choices, and guess what? They’re getting awesome responses!

Imagine sending out invites that can turn into real flowers! How cool is that?
Seed paper invitations are made from biodegradable stuff mixed with seeds. When the event’s over, guests can plant ‘em and watch ‘em grow!
I remember when we tried this for my sister’s baby shower. We used wildflower seeds, and months later, guests sent us pictures of their blooming flowers! It felt like the celebration never ended!
Choose seeds that grow well in your area. Here in New Jersey, we love using Black-eyed Susan or Purple Coneflower seeds.
2. Digital Invitations & E-vites
Digital invitations are not just eco-friendly but also super convenient! No paper means no waste— and allowing for easy last-minute changes.
For smaller events like birthdays, you can design your own with popular websites like Canva (it’s free) and then send them through social media or email.
There are plenty of ready-to-use templates are available on the site, you just need to modify the name and the date.
After using digital invites for a colleague’s wedding bash last year, I’m totally sold! We found a platform that lets us track RSVPs live, send reminders, & even set up a website for all the event details.

3. Upcycled & Recycled Paper Invitations

My cousin & I had so much fun making invites out of old National Geographic magazines for her travel-themed wedding! Every invite was unique and guests loved how personal they were!

Mother Nature will love these! Biodegradable invitations come from materials that break down naturally like bamboo paper or banana fiber.
Last summer, we used cork invitations for a family reunion—so cool right? They looked amazing and we felt good knowing they’d return to Earth without causing harm.
Don’t forget to use eco-friendly inks too! Soy-based or vegetable-based inks rock because they’re better for the environment.
5. Minimalist & Multi-functional Designs
Less is more when it comes to eco-friendly invites! Minimalist designs look chic while using less stuff.
One of my favorite ideas came from a friend’s wedding—they sent bookmark invitations! Guests could keep them long after the event was over—a perfect way to reduce waste and give a nice memento.
Another clever idea? Invitations that turn into party decorations! We once got an invite that could be put together into a beautiful paper lantern used at the party.
