Last spring, I helped throw a princess theme birthday party that still makes me smile. My friend’s daughter, Eliana, turned five. She’s a huge fan of Disney princesses like Elsa, Cinderella, and Ariel.

So of course, she wanted everything to sparkle — think Elsa-level sparkle with a pinch of Ariel’s sea-magic.

As a part-time party organizer and an eco-friendly living enthusiast, I wanted the day to feel magical but also mindful.

Princess Theme Birthday Party

Hosting eco-friendly parties has become something close to my heart. I love creating moments that feel beautiful and joyful without leaving behind waste.

So when Eliana’s birthday came around, I saw it as another chance to blend whimsy with sustainability.

Below, I’ll walk you through how we planned the party, the party favors we chose, decorations & the activities that matched the theme, and the simple ways we managed and reduced waste after the celebration.

Where and how we hosted it

We hosted the party at Eliana’s house. For Eliana, we ordered a stunning princess dress from Amazon.

That costume included fairy string lights woven into the skirt, a small princess bag, a delicate necklace and bracelet, two braids, a crown, and a wand. We ordered most of the party favors and decorations from Amazon.

Princess Theme Party Favors 🎁

We wanted the party favors to be a mix of items that matched the party theme and also a bit eco-friendly. Eliana herself helped me create some handwritten thank-you cards for her little friends.

The thank you cards were made from seed paper. Her mother baked a batch of homemade cookies that we wrapped in beeswax wraps and included in the goodie bag.

Along with these, we included a few princess-themed goodies (ordered from Amazon) that matched the party theme. Each kid who attended the party received a princess-themed mini notepad and pen. It had an invisible ink pen with a UV light.

To encourage creativity, we added a wooden tangram puzzle set for Kids, made of eco-friendly materials. The wooden puzzle was designed in a cool hexagon shape with different colorful patterns.

We also included a Princess Foam Mirror Kit. It came with diamond stickers that kids could use to decorate their own mirrors.

We packed everything in princess & prince design goodie bags. These bags are made from sturdy kraft with cute castle-themed prints.

This combination of handmade items and some purposeful favors made us feel like every child was taking home a piece of the celebration. This also helped us prevent unnecessary waste.

Princess Theme Party Decorations 🎀

Princess Theme Party Decorations

We hosted Eliana’s party indoors, so we had to transform our indoor space into a little royal wonderland. For this, we used a Princess Theme Party Decoration Kit.

This kit came with a charming Happy Birthday backdrop, a cake topper, adorable cupcake toppers, and a matching banner. These supplies set the tone for the princess-themed birthday celebration.

For the table setup, we ordered a princess birthday party tableware set. This set included paper plates, napkins, cups, straws, and a themed tablecloth, all with a princess theme.

As I always do, I added a few eco-friendly touches to keep things mindful. I used biodegradable confetti and eco-friendly balloons. I also had some reusable decorations from previous celebrations.

These small changes added a playful sparkle to the party without harming the planet. Since we chose paper cups and plates, we reduced single-use plastic.

Whenever I host a party, I always try to convince families to choose sustainable party supplies whenever possible.

However, it is also true that when you’re planning a specific theme, it’s not always possible to keep everything 100% eco-friendly — and that’s okay. The main intention of eco-friendly parties is to make small, thoughtful choices that move in the right direction.

Princess-Themed Party Activities 👑

We hosted some games and activities to keep the little guests entertained.

We hosted a Pin the Crown on the Princess game. We had the pin the crown on the princess party game kit. This kit had a large princess poster, 24 crown stickers, and two cute eye masks.

The kids took turns, giggling as they tried to “crown” the princess while blindfolded. It was a laughter-filled activity that rightly matched our party theme, too.

We also built a small Crown-Making Station. Here, the kids got to design their own crowns using recycled cardboard bases, colorful paper, fabric scraps, and a bit of glittery flair.

It was great to watch their creativity. After the activity, they wore their handmade crowns for the rest of the party.

Our menu for the party was simple and kid-friendly. We used organic cupcakes and a locally made princess cake, decorated with edible flowers and minimal fondant.

We also had fruit skewers, veggie sticks in compostable cups, and a cheese board for adults. We served the drinks in refillable dispensers.

Managing waste after the party

Whenever I host a party, I always prioritize managing the waste. At this party, we set up clearly labeled bins. This also teaches kids about reducing and managing waste.

We collected all the food scraps, floral trimmings, and biodegradable items, and they went directly into the backyard compost bin at Eliana’s grandparents’ home.

I also collected all the reusable party supplies and kept them safe for use in the next celebration. Since I host parties often, I have a good collection of reusable party supplies.

If you do not have a compost setup, then you can use curbside composting. In New Jersey, compost options vary by town. If curbside isn’t an option where you live, local farmers’ markets, community gardens, or municipal drop-offs can be useful.

At Eliana’s princess party, I was again able to make small eco-friendly swaps without compromising the party theme. The kids had a magical day with a few activities and some learning.

I hope the above information helps you host a princess-themed birthday party with some eco-friendly touches. If you’re planning to host one, try to give it an eco-friendly touch too.
