A few months ago, I helped plan a safari-themed birthday party for my childhood friend Hazel’s son.

We were able to make the party memorable and we were completely satisfied with the safari theme party favors we chose.

Hazel’s son has always been obsessed with animals. Ever since he was a toddler, he’s had a baby push walker with animal prints, a basket full of jungle animal toys, and an entire shelf of animal-themed books.

Every summer, he and his family visit Six Flags Wild Safari Park (just over an hour’s drive from where I live).

He knows almost every animal in the park by name. So, a safari theme was a perfect theme for his birthday party.

Here I will share with you the safari theme party favors and the party supplies we used for Hazel’s son’s birthday.

Safari Theme Party Favors Ideas

It can be a birthday party or a baby shower, themed party favors give guests something to remember.  A thoughtful party favor makes our celebration feel more special.

If you choose a safari theme, you will have many options to choose from for the party favors

At Hazel’s son’s party, we went all in on the experience. Each child in the party received a full kids’ safari costume set as their main favor.

This set included a safari hat, an explorer-style vest, a themed tote bag, and a plastic binocular. The kids were excited to wear their little outfits and go on their “animal adventures” around the room.

It felt like they had stepped into a mini safari park. No party favor can give such an experience.

We also added jungle safari mini coloring books, which kept a few quieter kiddos busy at the craft table.

There were temporary tattoos and slap bracelets with animal prints that they loved swapping and showing off.

Some of the younger kids were especially thrilled with the wild animal stamps. They went on a stamping spree all over their activity sheets (and their arms). To top it off, we handed out zoo animal bubbles that created a cloud of giggles.

Most of the party supplies and decorations were purchased from Amazon, which made prepping a lot easier. These favors doubled as fun props for the party’s activities and games.

We were completely satisfied with the response we received from the kiddos.

Safari Party Decorations & Supplies

The party was held indoors. So we decorated our living room and dining area with safari theme decorations. The decorations added a dose of fun and color.

We used a full safari-themed party supplies kit that included jungle animal print paper plates, matching napkins, themed cups, a leafy green tablecloth, and a vibrant “Happy Birthday” banner covered in jungle animal illustrations.

We also purchased a fabric safari photo prop. It acted as a party backdrop and also a place to take pictures.

Above the treat table, we hung animal skin print pennant banners and floated safari animals foil balloons around the living room wall.

We also used a bunch of animal print balloons to feel the party theme even more. These decorations become both décor and playful entertainment for the kids.

The Kids’ Activities we did

When we planned safari costumes, we knew we had to plan engaging activities. So we arranged a mini safari scavenger hunt game.

The kids searched for small animal toys hidden throughout the space. We gave them small checklists to mark off what they found.

We did not purchase any new toys because the birthday boy already had a bucket of animal toys.

The next activity was the coloring corner. The kids sat at a low table covered with themed coloring sheets and crayons. It gave them a moment to wind down while still staying in theme.

We also had a bubble zone, where kids used their animal-shaped bubble bottles to fill the room with bubbles. It was pure chaos, but the good kind.

The last activity was a musical safari game that worked like musical chairs but with animal sounds and themed music. It had everyone laughing, even the adults.

Giving Eco-friendly Touch to the Party

This party wasn’t fully eco-themed.  But I tried adding a few low-waste practices. We set up separate bins for trash, recyclables, and compostables, and label them clearly.

We packed the leftover snacks in reusable containers and sent them home with guests. The decor, like the foil balloons and banners were reusable, so we stored them for future use.

The safari tote bag from the costume set was also reusable and used as a lunch bag or toy carrier. It felt good knowing we were having fun while still being mindful of the planet.

Also, read simple guides for apartment composting.

Hazel’s son says some of the kids even bring their costume sets to preschool the following week. That’s how you know your party made an impact.

So, if you’re planning a safari-themed party, these party favors ideas and supplies may help you choose some.

But always try to include some eco-friendly methods and use reusable party decorations if possible. If you have any other cool ideas about safari party favors or decorations let me know in the comments.
