Toy Story is a timeless party theme, a favorite among kids and parents alike. It has lovable characters, heartfelt storytelling, and a colorful world. This makes it one of the favorite birthday party themes for kids.
Last year in April, I hosted a Toy Story-themed indoor birthday bash for my neighbor Barbara’s son, Oliver. He’s a die-hard Toy Story fan. His room is practically a shrine to Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and even Forky!
We hosted his birthday party with theme-matching party favors, decorations, and activities.
Here I want to share with you the Toy Story Party Ideas we used for Oliver’s birthday.
Toy Story Decorations & Supplies We Used
We kept the party indoors because it is easy to manage, and the weather in New Jersey can be unpredictable. We wanted our party space to completely match the Toy Story theme.
Once kids enter the party, they should feel like they have stepped right into Andy’s room.
To achieve the party theme, we used a combination of themed supplies and decorations. The vinyl Toy Story photo party backdrop was the centerpiece for our party decorations.
It was also a photo zone where the kids loved striking poses with their favorite character props.
We added a balloon arch garland kit that matched the Toy Story theme. This balloon arch was a highlight of our decoration, and it really made the space pop as guests walked in.
Our party table was also completely matched to the theme with Toy Story-themed supplies like plates, napkins, and a colorful tablecloth, all double-sided printed for that extra visual appeal.
Keeping the party indoors helped us keep everything neat and weatherproof. These simple supplies and decorations helped us to create a cheerful Toy Story celebration space.
Everything was purchased from Amazon, which made planning and delivery super convenient.
Toy Story Party Favors We Used
Picking out party favors that go with the theme is always fun. I like giving kids party favors to take home because it helps them remember the party..
For Oliver’s party, we used goodie bags that the kids really loved and kept talking about. We used a good-quality, double-sided printed Toy Story party bag.
Inside each bag, we included a mix of playful and sweet surprises. There were homemade cookies (baked by Barbara), Toy Story swirl lollipops that looked almost too cute to eat, and Toy Story-inspired notepads that the kids could use for doodles or school.
We also put the reusable Toy Story-inspired straws from the drink station inside each of the goodie bags. These straws were both a party essential and a takeaway.
Seeing the kids happily looking into their goodie bags just before they went home made us feel really good.
Toy Story-Themed Food & Drinks
We added a little fun with food names. This excited the kids when they saw their snacks match the theme!
We served:
- Buzz Lightyear Burgers – kid-sized sliders
- Alien Green Popcorn – lightly colored with natural food dye
- Jessie’s Juice Bar – lemonade and fruit punch served in labeled dispensers
- And of course, a show-stopping birthday cake featuring Woody and Buzz on top
Our drink station included reusable Toy Story-inspired straws. The kids used them during the party and got to take them home.
Games and Activities
For Oliver’s birthday, we kept the activities simple but made sure they were engaging. These activities are suitable for the younger age group and also easy to set up indoors.
1. Toy Story Pin the Tail on Bullseye
We used a Pin the Tail on Bullseye party game (from Amazon) that came with a waterproof poster, cute eye masks, and tail stickers.
The kids giggled nonstop as they took turns trying to get the tail just right. It was an awesome group activity that had them cheering for one another.
2. Find Forky Scavenger Hunt
We hid small Forky toys around the party room and gave the kids mini clues. It turned into an energetic scavenger hunt that got everyone up and moving.
3. Buzz’s Ring Toss
Using glow rings and decorated soda bottles (painted to look like space rockets), we set up a DIY ring toss game. It was simple, not expensive, and very on-theme.
I am an eco-friendly person. The Oliver’s birthday party we hosted wasn’t strictly zero-waste. I still added small eco-friendly touches—like reusable straws, paper-based favors, and skipping the plastic confetti ( You can use biodegradable confetti instead).
Whenever I host a party, I try to celebrate joyfully without losing sight of the values I care about. You can also read my blog posts about urban composting and zero waste living.
Toy Story is a very popular party theme in the United States and all around the world. If you’re planning a Toy Story-themed birthday party like us, you don’t have to go over the top.
We purchased all the stuff from Amazon. I hope these Toy Story party ideas, including supplies and decorations, help you host a successful Toy Story-themed party.
